Avatar: The Last Airbender finally returned to Netflix this summer! To celebrate streamable good content, June memes were all about ATLA (plus one Legend of Korra meme). What’s more ironic than using one of the best pieces of creative content to pick apart some of the most lack-luster stuff out there? May the wisdom drawn from these lighthearted memes keep your standards for Christian films from becoming rigid and stale.
- “Unforgiven” has “Forgiven”… “What If” is basically “The Family Man”… I don’t understand why Christian movie-makers feel the need to make Christian versions of existing movies. Why not just focus on telling a good story?
- Is it though? (Sorry, Aang, but that was rough, buddy.)
- This episode had more character development in six four-minute segments than most faith films do in two hours…
- A slice of humble pie for each of us! 🥧 Followed by a cup of calming jasmine tea. 🍵
- Our hero!
- Funny how an animated series can tell a more believable story than a live action film.
- The Chosen is tea, and that’s the TEA! 🍵
- One of the biggest OH CRUD moments in animated history!
- Toph Beifong: Melon Lord and Comeback Queen.
- This is what happens when you prioritize message over story. I wrote an eBook about it! COMING SOON!
- At least it’s not Dave. Or Grace. Or Jossh Whedton.
- That’s why I’m holding Christian movies up to the same standards as other films!
- Cool story, bro!
- A meme for our neighboring industry: The Christian Music Industry.
- Contrived miracles, B-list acting, pointless montages, preachy dialogue… It all just gave ME so much NOPE!
- “We’ll have to make some major changes around here!”
- “I sound like a guy. A really buff guy!”
- What if they were given cameo roles instead? Like the Cabbage Salesman!
- “We’re supposed to be not of this world; only explicitly Christian cartoons for you!”
- Oh, so that excuses everything?
- Unless there’s still a shortage. Then use Appa’s fur.
- In the end we’re supporting counselors.
- Oops, that was supposed to be serious?
- No wonder God created a suitable helper for Adam after he named the animals!
- Did you mean: imagination
- It’s fine to make movies for a niche audience, but don’t pretend they have a wider appeal.
- “Pants are an illusion, and so is death.”
- So many studios focus on checking boxes rather than telling genuine stories, and many writers fall into that trap. But the best stories are the ones that come from the heart. Don’t lose who you are.
- Leaving out Sokka’s next line because it’s NOT Christiaaaaan!
- SURPRISE! It’s actually about redemption!
